Sow genetics

KI Lichtervelde provides the PIC sow genetics through two channels. With KI Lichtervelde, the introduction of new female genetics into your farm can be either via the supply of breeding gilts or via the supply of dam line semen with your own breeding programme. Both methods are focused on obtaining the highest possible genetic return at farm level. This means that the genetic progress from the nucleus breeding farm is implemented as quickly as possible at a practical level. The supply of genetics in whatever form is always done under the guidance of expert advice.

PIC breeding gilts

PIC breeding gilts are F1 animals of the Camborough line that have various notable traits:

  • 30 piglets for 1000 kg of feed per sow per year
  • The sow for optimal productivity
  • Strong, vigorous piglets with fewer losses
  • Robust with excellent mothering ability
  • The mother of the best fattening pig

Delivery on the farm can be done at different weights/ages directly from the sub-breeder or via domestic quarantine stables.

PIC for Own Breeding

KI Lichtervelde offers PIC breeding semen for your own breeding of sows, supported by expert advice. In this respect, you have the choice between two lines:

  • L03 – line (Large White)
  • L02 – line (British Landrace)

These maternal dam line boars are located in a central AI station in Germany, where they provide the supply of PIC genetics all over Europe. By replacing these boars quickly in a rapid sire turnover rate (up to 400% = 3 months in production) under the direct supervision of PIC – EU, KI Lichtervelde can always offer semen of genetically high quality.

The advantage of doing your own breeding is that you significantly reduce the risk of disease introduction, since no animals have to be brought into the farm. We can assist you by providing you with an action plan to reduce the risks of disease incidence.

Both rotation programmes and pure-line propagation are possible.
